TELCO has been around since 1973 when Gary Andersen, Berne Pulsipher, and Jack Johnson decided to do a tournament at Bountiful City Golf Course. They started with tee times and had about 20-30 players. There was no clubhouse, just a small trailer with a Coke machine outside the door. Entry forms were sent out in the yellow “Clear to” envelopes in the company mail. Entries from AT&T, Western Electric and Mountain Bell employees all signed up and believe it or not, many of the entries arrived via company mail with cash in them. That would never happen today. As the years passed, entrants grew but the last tournament of the year was always at Wasatch State Park or Mountain Dell. At Wasatch, the lady that ran the restaurant made Berne and Jack vacuum and put away the tables after everyone left. A lot has changed since those early years and membership in the league is now over 100.
